EDH: Tromokratis AKA Mono Blue Sea Monsters

Back a few years ago, my local Legacy players start getting into EDH for some reason, and I still have no idea why to this day. What happened next was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made in Magic, I caved in the built an EDH deck too.

A group of us would always get to the store an hour or more before the tournaments so we could smash our decks at each other because we wanted to play Legacy night and day. One day, a couple of guys brought their EDH decks to play instead. I watched as everyone started playing EDH instead of Legacy beforehand, leaving me nothing to do but watch. Soon after I started showing up maybe fifteen minutes before tournaments started because I did not want to just watch Magic, I wanted to play it.

I remembered back to when I first heard about EDH back in 2010 when it was described to me as a format where you can play whatever you want, it is just for fun so make a fun deck. Tribal type theme decks have always been my favorites, I started playing Magic with an Elves deck and my second deck was a Merfolk deck back on the kitchen table, so I thought of different tribals I wanted to build a whole one hundred card deck of. When none really came to my attention, I thought maybe just a theme instead of just one tribe. Around that time, a Modern deck using Quest for Ula's Temple was brewed up. I saw the Kraken, Leviathan, Octopus, or Serpent creature part, I had an idea. Giant bodies of water and big fish have always been a fear of mine, for some reason, so I started looking into it making a deck using mostly these four creature types.

All my Spike friends had all the Spike decks so I knew that I would not win a lot, but I would be playing. Also, having a fun thing to look forward to looking for in spoilers too is awesome. Theros block brought a lot of fun sea monsters that never saw or will see constructed play, but they were awesome for me. I was able to start cutting some of the old terrible for the new less terrible ones. The goal is to be flavorful and stick to the sea monsters theme. This deck is not competitive, but I like playing it, and that is what counts in my book.

New Cards:

Arcane Lighthouse: This card is only added because it is a lighthouse. I guess the hexproof could be relevant at some point, but I doubt it.

Stormsurge Kraken: This deck needed more mid-mana costing creatures. Having Hexproof is pretty cool, and the Lieutenant clause actually matters with my general costing seven and coming out in just a couple turns later.

Chasm Skulker: I like having a squid that leaves more squids when he dies. Costing three makes me really happy because I can start to do something that will impact the game earlier than I could before. I do not have a lot of draw cards, but adding one counter a turn is good enough for me.

Treasure Cruise: Going on a cruise with all these sea monsters swimming around is risky, but I do not think there is anyway I can not play a flavorful draw spell.

It does not look like there are any cards in Fate Reforged that go in this deck. Dragons of Tarkir probably will not either. Maybe, the last core set ever will have one. There have always been a big blue creature that is a whale or sometime in core sets.

Thank you for reading!
