Phil Writes About Cube: Red Cards in Shadows over Innistrad for Peasant Cube

With Shadows over Innistrad fully spoiled, I thought it would be a good time to look at the different cards that I might want to add to my Peasant Cube. For reference my cube can be found here: Cubetutor Link

This time, we look at Red cards!

Bloodmad Vampire
Bloodmad Vampire is one of the many cards I really like from this set. This card can be a 4/1 for 2 when cast for its Madness cost, which means that a different card for a beneficial effect from discarding Bloodmad Vampire to it. The added effect of being able to grow pushes this card over the edge for me.

Geistblast
Geistblast is an expensive Shock, but I like the added 2 generic and 1 blue cost for copying a instant or sorcery. I think this card will prove itself useful in a lot of ways in cube. Both Control and Burn decks could possibly run this card to give it an extra boost. This card should make the cut.

Incorrigible Youths
Incorrigible Youths goes along the same lines as Bloodmad Vampire for me. This card fills an awesome spot for Madness cards, and the fact that this card has haste puts it over the edge. I am really looking forward to drafting this card in the future. I could see this card easily making it into my cube.

Ravenous Bloodseeker
Ravenous Bloodseeker is exactly what I wanted in this set. Even though the limit to using this card as a discard outlet is once per turn, most of the time, I still feel like it will work out great. Any number of R/x decks will want to play this as graveyard cards should be running rampant in my cube soon.

 Skin Invasion / Skin Shedder
This card does something that I really like, it forces you to play right and it makes your opponent think a little. What I mean is that it makes you attack, which is what you want to do as an aggro deck, and it makes you opponent have to think about if it wants to keep taking damage from the creature its enchanted to or face another creature. I really like this card and hope it works out.

 Village Messenger / Moonrise Intruder
I am a huge fan of Reckless Waif, and Village Messenger seems like a sibling to her. Haste on the front side does a lot for me. Applying pressure on turn one is one of my favorite things to do in an aggro deck. Menace on the back side makes this Werewolf a tricky number to work with. Even though I am excited about the Madness and discard outlets, this card makes me the most excited for pure aggro decks and getting another option at the 1 slot.

Are you as excited for Village Messenger as I am? Let me know and join me for Green next time!

Thank you,
Philip
