MTG Pack: Dragons of Tarkir #1

Each time I open a pack, I want to write a little bit about each card to make sure that I think about each one individually as it relates to prismatic. When I'm done writing, I am going to add the non-rare or foil cards to my "Phil Plus Syd" prismatic deck. If you don't know what prismatic is or want to see what the decklist currently is, here is the link: By Card Type and By Card Color!

Center Soul

One white and one generic for a white instant.
A target creature gets protection from the color of your choice until the end of the turn with rebound. This card would be good in an aggressive deck that wants to get through attackers. The rebound allows this card to be cast two turns in a row so you can be assured that you will get that damage in.

Qarsi Sadist

One black and one generic for a 1/3 black human cleric.
1/3's are good at blocking most creatures that are played on turn one or turn two. He's not the best on offense, but his exploit that let's you drain target opponent for two and gain you two is fine.
I'm not the biggest fan of this guy.

Sabertooth Outrider

One red and three generic for a 4/2 red human warrior with trample.
A 4/2 for four isn't the best, but his formidable of gaining first strike makes his better. He probably goes in a deck with big creatures so eight power or greater is possible.
This is one of my favorite pauper cards from the set.

Champion of Arashin

One white and three generic for a 3/2 hound warrior with lifelink.
This lifelinker fits nice in a white aggro curve. She would pair nicely with the Center Soul to make sure you gain six life while draining your opponent for six, too.

Tread Upon

One green and one generic for a green instant.
Target creature gain +2/+2 and trample until the end of turn. I like this card in a GW or GR aggro or midrange deck to push through damage.

Updraft Elemental

One blue and two white for a 1/4 blue flying elemental.
This bird-looking elemental is a great blocker. Pretty much most creatures that are played on or before turn three. If you somehow had equipment or enchantments, he could become an attacking threat.

Misthoof Kirin

One white and two generic for a 2/1 meagmorphing, flyinging, vigilant white kirin.
This guy goes great in white aggro decks. With or without the megamorph, this guy can still bring an air beating while still threatening to block X/1's when megamorphed. I like this guy in pauper.

Ojutai's Breath

One blue and two white for a blue instant.
Tap target creature and it doesn't untap during the next it's controller's next uptap phase with rebound. This card can deal with a couple trouble creatures when you have a control deck. Buying time is always good.

Spidersilk Net

Zero for a colorless equipment that gives equipped creature +0/+2 and reach for a equip cost of two colorless. This card can help block the pesky flyers in this set.

Twin Bolt

One red and one generic for a red instant. Twin Bolt deals two damage divided as you choose among one or two target creatures and/or players. This card can help kill one or two creatures or go right to the face of an opponent.

Sight Beyond Sight

One blue and three generic for a blue sorcery. Look at the top two cards of your library. Put one in your hand and the other on the bottom of your library with rebound. This can help you dig through your deck for a card you need. Rebound helps you give even farther. Looking at four cards and keeping two is pretty useful.

Skywise Teachings

One blue and three generic for a blue enchantment that whenever you cast a noncreature spell, you may pay one blue and one generic for a 2/2 blue flying Djinn Monk token. This card could be a finisher or a survival mechanism for a blue based control deck. While you are digging through your deck with your draw spells, you can get an army of blockers that turns into an army of flying attackers.

Blood-Chin Rager

One black and one generic for a 2/2 black human warrior. When he attacks, each warrior you control can't be blocked this turn except by two or more creatures. This creature is good in warrior themed strategies. Other than that, I'm not excited about him.

Living Lore

One blue and three generic for a blue avatar creature. When Living Lore enters the battlefield, exile an instant or sorcery card from your graveyard. It's power and toughness is enough to the exiled card's mana cost. When it does combat damage, you may sacrifice it and cast the exiled card for free. This card can be a finisher for a blue control deck, too. You can also cash him in for that exiled spell when you need it.

Thank you,
Philip
