Trans-generational Pokemon Journey: Generation 1 - Blue Part 1

Ever since Blue was released in the United States, I have been playing the Pokemon Game Boy games. Now, I want to take a trip down all the generations I have. I still don't have a 3DS so, it looks like I can only go until generation five.

Here is my list:
Gen 1: Blue
Gen 2: Silver
Gen 3: Sapphire
Gen 4: Pearl
Gen 5: Black 2

With some bonus games if I want to keep going afterwards:
Gen 1: Yellow
Gen 3: LeafGreen

I want to start my journey with the same game I started my journey with sixteen years ago, Blue. In fact, it is the same cartridge I got a month after my sixth birthday when it came out.

Lately, I have been naming myself "P" on Pokemon games instead of Philip or Phil. I think it technically saves a little bit of time each time the game prints your name (which is a lot). So, in theory, it should save some small amount of time over the course of a game. But this isn't the important part, I'm sorry.

I decided that Squirtle was going to be my right hand Pokemon, this game. I started out on my journey by trying to catch one of my favorite first generation Pokemon, Nidoran. Male or female, though, I asked myself. I saw four females in a row, and then I saw another, so I took advantage and caught it. I also decided to pick up a Spearow for my flyer, too.

Side Note: Usually, I do not worry about having a Pokemon that can use flying until later in the game, but over the past year or so I have been wasting a lot of time switching Pokemon and then grinding them up to the rest of my team's level. My goal for this game is to get my team early, and then try to stick with them until the end.

Anyway, I continued up through Viridian Forest and Pewter City. Brock was no match for Squirtle's Bubble. Just like that, the first badge is mine.

Nidoran - Level 11
Squirtle - Level 13
Spearow - Level 10

Time to head to Mt. Moon and visit the Zubat swarm. While in Mt. Moon, I caught a Paras for my team. I thought a grass and bug type that can probably learn a poison attack would be useful. Plus, I have not used Paras or Parasect in years so I thought it was time to use one again. Also while wondering through the cave, my Squirtle evolved into a Wartorle! My little buddy is growing up. I exited with no problem and headed towards Cerulean City.

On the way, my Nidoran evolved into Nidorina. I decided to keep it a Nidorina for now because Nidoqueen is part ground, and Misty uses water types. After beating my rival handily and visiting Bill, I did a little training and Spearow evolved into Fearow. Time for the Cerulean Gym. Misty was no trouble at all as Paras took down Staryu, and then Paras and Fearow took down Starmie.

Paras - Level 19
Fearow - Level 20
Nidorina - Level 18
Wartortle - Level 21

Lt. Surge is waiting for me in Vermilion City. Time to evolve Nidorina into Nindoqueen to help combat his electric types.

While on the S.S. Anne and battling my rival, my Paras evolved into Parasect. Afterwards, I taught it Cut and headed to the Gym. Lt. Surge was no match for my Parasect and Nidoqueen.

Parasect - Level 25
Nidoqueen - Level 27
Fearow - Level 25
Wartortle - Level 25

After my victory, I headed through the Diglett cave and met up with Professor Oak's Aide. He gave me Flash and I went on my way. Now, it is time to go through the Rock Tunnel. I hope to catch a Machop for my team in there.

See you on the other side.
